El Nino, Spanish for the Nino

The last major EL Niño event we experienced in San Diego was the winter of 1997/98. It reeked havoc with non-stop rain as well as non-stop swell. There was a lot of hype last year, and now this year about an impending El Niño event. We are keeping our fingers crossed for this to come to fruition not only to get some surf, but for some much needed rain. California has been in a mega drought from 2011 – Present. This is something that hasn’t been seen in the last 1200 years. That being said, we are trying to keep a level head and not get too ‘psyched’ up for something that may or may not happen. We are already preparing for an El Niño winter though. All the boys in the factory got step ups and guns shaped over the summer just in case we do get a few massive swells. One piece of advice we can give to our customers is to make sure you have a few bigger boards ready. Nothing is worse than scrambling for a bigger board at the last minute. So whether you are in the market for a step up shortboard, a Chem Zenagain, or maybe a Rhino Chaser, make sure to put in your order asap. Fall is coming very quickly, and there is only about one month left of summer. Fingers crossed for a good Fall/Winter this year.
